End of a great, mythical week - Friday 16th September

Friday 16 Sep 2016

We have had a fabulous week and the children have worked very hard indeed.

It has been our second week on place value in maths, so the children should now be very confident in explaining how much digits are worth when placed in respective columns on a place value grid. We also undertook a place value investigation in our maths groups on Friday where the children gradually gaining in confidence and ability to work through methods in a systematic way.

In Mr Yates's group they were given the digits   3 0  8  3     and asked to discover how many different combinations could be created using just these digits.
Several groups got the correct answer after some strategic and structured investigating.

In literacy, we developed our own Success Criteria for a Greek Myth, including the structures used and also the language and punctuation features.
This helped in planning our lessons where we completed work on noun phrases, use of direct speech and inverted commas (speech marks), the use of parenthesis
in our writing and also developing our creative writing skills.

This was all possible since we knew so much about the main character from our Greek Myths - Heracles. At the start of the week, we took on endurance, strength and
eating challenges to see if we were worthy of competing against him...

We ended the week in mixed-class groups to describe mythical beasts and settings for other children in the class to draw.
If your description was accurate and detailed enough, then the rest of the class should have been able to draw it!
