What an amazing couple of sporting weeks we have had. Where to start?
On 27th February, our Y5/6 Handball team competed in the partnership competition at Handsworth Grange. They put on a fantastic display and worked well together, finishing 2nd. This means they have now qualified for the City finals on the 6th April.
On the 8th March, the Y6 boy’s football teams played against Greenhill’s teams. Both of our teams played brilliantly and displayed great determination. Well done to
everyone who played.
This week, the Y4 girls competed in our Partnership Futsal competition. Every girl, who played, supported and encouraged one another and displayed fantastic team spirit. They also finished 2nd, missing out on 1st by a goal difference of 2.
Our Y4s also competed in the Partnership Handball competition. Just like the girls football team, the handball team displayed superb team spirit and were a credit to
the school finishing 3rd in the competition.
Cheerleading is a new competition for the school and last month we took part in the Sheffield Schools competition. The girls demonstrated how hard they had been working on their routine and finished a fantastic 3rd in Sheffield. This meant they qualified for the South Yorkshire School Games representing Sheffield. The School Games took place on Thursday and after an interesting start to the day, the girls finished 5th in South Yorkshire. An amazing achievement. A special mention also needs to go to Greta, who broke a bone in her thumb the night before the competition. She turned up to the competition bandaged up and determined to play her part in the team, she demonstrated such determination and team spirit. I would also like to thank a member of Sacred Hearts team, who stepped in to help us out with the lifts that Greta was unable to support.
At the South Yorkshire School Games, we also had a Y5/6 advanced team competing in the gymnastics. Watching the team compete, they were so calm and positive on each of the events. We knew, whatever the result, they could be very proud of their performances. It turns out they can be unbelievably proud of themselves as they are now South Yorkshire Champions!!!
Last, but not least, is our amazing cross country team. Since last September, Caz Kay has been doing a brilliant job organising our cross country team and this season has seen the team go from strength to strength. Every child who has taken part in the Sheffield Cross Country League has improved their performances, which they should be very proud of. Annabelle in Y4 finished 3rd and the Y4 girls were 7th.
In the City Championships, Annabelle (Y4) came 2nd, Abbie (Y4) came 3rd and the Year 4 girls’ team were 2nd overall. This weekend has finished on a high with the Y4 girls’ team winning the cross country relay and the Y4 boys finishing in the top 15.
Well done to each and every child, who has represented the school in a sporting event this half term or throughout the year.
