A very hot week of super learners
Friday 16 Sep 2016
We would like to thank all the parents and carers who came to our very warm welcome meeting this week. It was lovely to meet you all and we hope that you now have a clearer idea of some of the exciting activities we will be covering in Year One and some of the methods that we use in our teaching and learning of maths and literacy. If you were unable to attend the meeting, or if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to pop in and talk to us.
This week in literacy, we have been labelling pictures. The children drew a picture of their weekend activities and labelled them using cursive writing and lines drawn with a ruler. They then drew a picture of themselves and labelled the five senses they use to smell, taste, hear, see and touch. We discovered that labelling can be quite tricky, the children were very good at spotting Mrs Lucas' mistake, her writing was back to front!
In maths we have continued with number work, counting and recognising numbers to 20. They have been using Numicon to help support their learning. Over the 1/2 term we shall be concentrating further on place value, number bonds to 10 and 20 and comparing and ordering numbers.
Today in your child's bookbag you will find two slips. One slip is asking you to collect boxes, tubes, plastic bottles etc. for a making project. The children will be using the materials to make shakers and binoculars. The second slip is to inform you that your child will be baking at some point this half term, making gingerbread men.
The children have all worked very hard and when they went home they were all ready for an early night. Have a fantastic weekend and keep an eye on the weather, we may be able to add some more storms to our weather charts.
