Bradway Primary School

Friday 17th June

Friday 17 Jun 2016

In Literacy this week we have been looking at stories with familiar settings and have focussed on the story 'Charlie's Bag'.  The children have thoroughly enjoyed reciting the story along with actions.  We drew story maps for the story and then used these to innovate our own versions.  Finally, we wrote our own stories based on the structure of 'Charlie's Bag'.  In Y2W we worked with Mr Hartley to make up a Gruffalo story and act it out using puppets. Sadly, Mr Hartley finished his teaching practice today.  We would like to say a huge thank you for all his hard work and wish him all the best in his new job!

Next Monday afternoon is Infant Sports' Day.  Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school. We welcome you to come and support your child at this event.  We will be starting at 1.30pm promptly but please do not arrive before 1.15pm as the Juniors will still be on their lunch break.  We will be setting up a 'Parent Zone' in the centre of the school field.  This will enable you to see events on the running track as well as activity stations set up around the outer edges of the field.  The Year two children have an allocated track time of 2.30pm.  Between 1.30pm and 2.30pm we will be taking part in a carousel of skills based activities around the field.  This is to avoid children sitting and waiting for prolonged periods of time. Can we please ask parents and carers not to bring snacks and drinks for the children and to remain inside the allocated zone.  This is to help keep the children together and avoid children wandering off.  At the end of Sports' Day we will take ALL children back into school and ask that you collect your child from the usual place, after the hometime bell.

The year two camp is approaching and we need to finalise numbers so that we can inform the scouts as to how many tents we need.  If you haven't returned your child's slip, please do so ASAP.  We will soon be asking the children who they would like to share a tent with.  We won't be having mixed boy/girls tents.  However, we can mix children across the year group.  Please have a chat with your child about who they might like to bunk in with!

Emails have been sent out regarding instrumental tuition for children entering Y3.  If you would like your child to learn an instrument, please contact the school office.  Some children have had recorder lessons this year and on Tuesday 28th June they will be performing to the rest of the year group.  Please ensure your child has their recorder in school on that day.

We are going to be making carnival masks and shakers for out street carnival on Wednesday 13th July.  Your child will need to bring into school an empty cereal box and two small plastic bottles with lids.

The week commencing the 27th June is 'Enterprise Week'.  We will be making products in class and selling them at a whole school street market on the afternoon of Thursday 30th June.  Parents and carers are encouraged to attend this event and buy our wonderful wares!

We can't reveal our secrets just yet!  All we can say is.....

'MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU! '
