Friday 3rd February

Friday 03 Feb 2017

We've had another busy week in Year 2 and the children have all been working extremely hard.

In Maths, we have been learning all about fractions and have tried to find halves and quarters of shapes and amounts. We now know about the important names of the fraction - the numerator and the denominator. 'D' for denominator reminds us that that this is the number that is 'down' on the bottom of the fraction. This is how many parts we have altogether!
The children have used cubes to share between two - for halves and between four - for quarters. Some children have now moved onto finding quarters of amounts by halving and halving again - some numbers as tricky as 180!
The homework set this week on Education City is all about fractions. There are six activities which we think won't take the children long to complete. The activities have been chosen to ensure that the a basic understanding of fractions is embedded. Here we are using concrete apparatus to find fractions of numbers.

In Literacy, we have been practising reading comprehensions. These have been fairly tricky but we have persevered!

Y2WS have been outside doing their observational drawings.  Here they are battling the wind!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
