Happy New Year

Thursday 05 Jan 2017

Welcome back to all our pupils, parents and carers. Hope you have had a wonderful break. We're so impressed with how quickly the children have settled back into the saddle this week. Lots of exciting things await this term including our Evacuee Day and trip to Eden Camp. Letters have gone out this week about Evacuee Day and some DVDs we shall be watching. They are also copied below. We shall be holding our Y4 Parents Workshop on Monday 23rd January straight after school where we shall be discussing current initiatives for Maths. Reading and Spelling.

Could we also remind parents that we are now using Education City for maths homework and that work will be set each week from Monday to Sunday. This should take approximately 30 minutes each week and should be done ideally in small bitesized chunks. Please contact your child's class teacher if you cannot provide access to a pc/laptop or tablet at home. In this case we shall make provision for your child to do their homework in school.

Goodnight Mr Tom and Anne Frank DVDs

Dear Parents and Carers

As part of our Second World War topic we intend to show the children the DVDs above. Goodnight Mr Tom is the wonderful story of a boy evacuated during the War
to Devon where he is cared for by a kindly old man ‘Mr Tom’. Anne Frank is a BBC television version of the story shown at teatime on TV a few
years ago. Both films are rated PG due to certain emotional elements. If you would like to discuss either of the films with your
child’s class teacher before they are shown in class please pop in to see us and we can arrange a viewing time after
school. Alternatively if you would rather your child did not watch either or both of the films please return the reply slip below by Monday 9th January.

Evacuation Day – Tuesday 17th January

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday 17th January, as part of our Second World War topic, we will be learning more about evacuation and want the children to imagine what it would have been like to be evacuated. We would like the children to prepare a bag/suitcase/brown paper parcel tied up with string and bring it to school on that day ready for their evacuation! The bag may contain a teddy bear, photo of family, set of children's clothing, toothbrush, nightdress/pyjamas, sandwiches and chocolate wrapped in greaseproof paper or newspaper, pen & diary, labels and string. Children may also wish to dress like a 1940s school child but this should be kept quite simple. For boys, tucking trousers in socks, wearing a jumper and a cap should suffice. Girls could wear a skirt, blouse and cardigan or jumper, hair in plaits and knee length socks. We must stress that parents should not go to any expense whatsoever and normal school uniform is also absolutely fine. Thank you in advance for your support with this. This has been a wonderful enrichment experience for the children in previous years. There will be a photo opportunity on the playground when the school bell goes that morning too.

Have a lovely weekend
