Thornbridge here we come

Friday 20 May 2016

It’s been another busy week in Y4.
In maths, we have been concentrating on data and measures. In particular, we have revised how to convert between different units of measure using our knowledge of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. It would be really helpful if you could revise these with your child over the half term holiday.
10mm = 1cm
100cm = 1m
1000m = 1km

On Monday, the children will be carrying out their own investigations using measures and plotting the results on their own bar graphs.
In Literacy, we spent the week preparing our mini-biogs all about school and where we feel our strengths and weaknesses lie. The end results are brilliant as the children worked so hard at editing and re-drafting their work. They’ve got much better at this recently.

In Science, we learnt about food chains and food webs and some of you parents might have seen us tying ourselves in knots on the grass. Ask your child we bees are so important?

In our Sheffield topic we began work on tourist information leaflets about our wonderful city. We shall continue with these next week.

Today, we began our new art topic making wire sculptures, which we will Modrock and then paint. We would like to invite parent helpers in for a Friday afternoon after half term to help with the Modrock (like plaster of Paris). Please see your child’s class teacher if you are willing to help.

Our Thornbridge trip has finally arrived. The children are getting very excited as are we. Please refer to your list of things to bring and make sure your child packs themselves and places the list in their case so they know what to pack for the return journey. Thornbridge supply wellies and waterproofs for the children but they will need a pair of trainers to run around in and ideally some indoor slippers for the evenings. At the moment the weather looks ok but could change. Please remember to send any medication for your child that you have listed on the medical form in a named bag on Wednesday morning. These will be handed to Mrs Stevenson. Finally please ensure your child is at school by 8.30am on Wednesday as we shall be leaving promptly at 8.45am

Have a lovely weekend everyone and some well-earned rest before Thornbridge.
