Year 4 Out and About Again

Monday 09 May 2016

Despite the short week last week, we managed to pack a lot of fun activities into our timetable again. On Thursday we were lucky to get a chance to visit the Madina Mosque near London Road. We spent two hours finding out about customs and traditions in Islam and our guide, Zahid, showed us around the building. We learnt about the importance of cleanliness before praying and had a look at different copies of the Quran. The visit ended with a look around the after school classrooms where children come to learn more about their religion.
After leaving the Mosque, we set off on foot to the General Cemetery on Cemetery Road. Our guides talked us through the history of the beautiful Victorian Cemetery and gave us one or two anecdotes about famous local people who are buried there. It was a beautiful and tranquil place and well worth a visit if you have more time.

In maths, we continued to look at the properties of  2D shape, in particular angles and symmetry. Explanation reports were the main focus in in LIteracy and we shall be doing an independent writing task this week to test our knowledge and skills.

In art, the children began to produce their replica metalwork relief pictures using pva glue and foil. The results are looking amazing. Watch the BLOG on Friday to see.

We selected our acts for the talent show this coming Friday. Please note that we shall be performing jointly with the year 5 pupils so your child will let you know if they got through or not. The assembly will start at 2.15pm.

Have a lovely evening.
