Spies, Creative Combat and Masks
Friday 18 Sep 2015
It's been another busy week in year 5, for everyone involved.
In English, the story of Alex Rider has continued to keep us gripped. The children have worked on retrieving information from a text, trying to build a picture of the characters we have met so far. They have also tried to empathise with a character and written a letter as if they were Alex. We have to say we were really impressed with how well the children all focused on the task and they have written some fantastic letters.
In maths we continued our place value topic, this week focussing on rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, see if your child can explain how we jump to work out the answers.
Along with some very busy mornings, the afternoons have been quite varied. We kicked off the week with the start of our creative combat dance unit; we have also covered tag rugby, Earth and space and began making Papier Mache Mayan funeral masks.
A quick reminder that we would like the children to complete an hour of Maths Whizz each week and read their books at least three times a week to an adult. We have also completed a times table test this week, the results suggest they are all a little rusty after the holidays, each child will be given their starting tables this week, but in the mean time any practice would be great.
Once again the Year 5s have really set a superb example to the rest of the school in the way they line up and conduct themselves around school, we're so proud of them. Keep it up!
Have a brilliant weekend
