Victorians had a sweet tooth!
Wednesday 04 Feb 2015
This week, year 5 have continued with their Victorians topic, becoming researchers and investigating what life changing objects were invented during the Victorian era. Whilst many inventions that we still use today such as the electric lightbulb, telephone and electric train, came about, did you know that lots of goodies were also discovered during this time? After all, where would we be without ice cream (first sold in 1851), Jelly Babies (first manufactured in 1864) and Liquorice Allsorts (created by accident in 1899)? Can you find any more amazing inventions or discoveries that came about during the reign of Queen Victoria?
As the snow and ice continues, we would like to remind all parents that their children should have indoor shoes to change into when they arrive at school and after breaks and lunchtime. Further to that, please also make sure that your child has an outdoor PE kit in school. Where possible and weather permitting, we like to try and do PE outside, but require the children to be adequately dressed during the winter months. Many thanks for your support.
And finally...
We would also like to remind all parents and carers about our Key Stage 2 Writing Workshop being held tomorrow at 6pm. It will be a really useful insight into how we teach writing in school and how you can help your child at home. We look forward to seeing you there!
