Monday 29th February

Monday 29 Feb 2016

This date doesn't come around every year; only when it is a leap year is it included on the calendar.

Here is an update of some of the tasks we have been covering in the last week or so:

In literacy we spent two days looking at the role of the colon and semi-colon and how they can be used effectively in writing. We also worked in pairs to investigate where new paragraphs should begin using the mnemonic TiPToP. Remember, we start a new paragraph when time moves on  (Ti); the person speaking changes (P); the topic of the story changes (To) or when the place the events are taking place changes (P). Often, these things happen together e.g. Time moves on and the place changes.

We also examined how conjunctive adverbs (such as however and meanwhile) can use used at different points in the sentence.
However, the wolf became angry.
The wolf became angry, however.
The wolf, however, became angry.

In maths, Mr Yates' group have been finding the areas and perimeters of compound shapes.
Miss Svoboda's group have covered work on algebra, for example,  3 + x = 20 - 7
A little tip is to replace the 'x' with a question mark before balancing the equation (number sentence).
